WORK FOR US
At Free to Be Kids, we’re on a mission to ensure every young person in London has the opportunity for joy, exploration, and self-discovery within their childhood. While poverty, trauma, and other hardships can overshadow these experiences, we’re dedicated to creating transformative experiences that help children to build confidence and better see their own potential.
We’re a small charity with a big heart, growing fast! Join our close-knit team and you’ll gain valuable experience of growth within an ambitious and developing organization. Whatever your role, you’ll have the opportunity to play a direct role on our residential projects, seeing first-hand the difference our work makes to vulnerable children.
We offer competitive salaries and benefits packages for all roles, as well as the chance to be part of something truly transformative. If you’re passionate about going above and beyond to support children’s emotional health, we’d love to hear from you!
We recognise the incredible value that diversity of all kinds brings to our team and through this to our children’s experiences of the world. We particularly encourage applications from candidates from groups who are traditionally under represented within the charity sector and those who have had life experiences similar to those our children may be facing.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
We’re looking for someone a little bit different. We believe this is an exciting role with a rare combination of significant management responsibility central to an ambitious and growing charity, and opportunity to develop your skills working with particularly vulnerable children. It would suit someone with a genuine drive to work in the charity sector, who has strong experience already, but who values the idea and responsibility of being a key cog central to the running of a small charity and all the opportunities for learning, growth and development this brings. Certainly, you’ll have a real passion for, and experience of, working with disadvantaged children. More than anything else, we’re looking for the right person who is fast paced, flexible and passionate enough to go the extra mile for children who deeply deserve our support.
TO APPLY:
Applicants are required to submit all of the following:
- A copy of your CV or up to date LinkedIn profile.
- Covering letter (very approximately one side A4) which must address the two questions of: (i) ‘Why this role, why now’, and (ii) ‘What strengths, experience and skills you would bring with you to the role.’ Whilst there are no word limits, remember longer can be harder to read.
- A short introductory video of 1-3 minutes (maximum) showing your vibrancy, fit for the role and telling us something interesting about yourself! (Top tips: Keep it fast paced and lively; shorter may be better; touch on the person characteristics set for the role; something filmed quickly on your phone which feels organic is what we’re looking for.) As this is a people facing role including training delivery the video’s purpose is to help bring life to your written letter, whilst also helping us filter out solely AI written applications.
Please send all 3 requirements in one email to: employment@freetobekids.org.uk A google drive, dropbox or similar link can assist with larger videos. Please ensure video viewing permissions are set to ‘anyone with the link’ and do not expire until after second interview dates.
Application deadline: 10pm Wednesday 26th November 2025
Don’t meet every single requirement? We are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right person for us.
OUR SELECTION PROCESS AND TIMELINE:
1st stage interviews: 1st-2nd December (virtual). We may offer some interview slots throughout the window but you will not be disadvantaged if you need to wait till towards the deadline to apply.
2nd stage interviews: 8th-9th December. In-person at our London Waterloo office preferred, but virtual attendance is possible.
The role requires an Enhanced DBS check. Whilst a previous conviction will not necessarily prevent you from joining our team, we would expect you to disclose any convictions or cautions as part of your application, and will ask you specifically about this if you progress through to interview stage. The appointment is subject to references (taken up after offer). We will also need to obtain proof of your right to work in the UK prior to appointment.
If you have any questions about the role, you can contact us by emailing the above address and we’d be happy to arrange a chat over the phone. We look forward to hearing from you!
